Description
Our client is a £750m turnover logistics business, with international headquarters who operates globally but with a significant presence in Europe. They are seeking a UK-based Finance Director to report to the CFO and lead the finance function.
The Role
- The role will be responsible for all aspects of finance across all territories.
- There is a particular emphasis on technical accounting skills, complex consolidations, tax, US GAAP etc, but complemented by demonstrable strong commercial acumen.
- The role is largely office based in Cambridge office (4 days on site, 1 day remote), travel to London will be required on a regular basis will be required. Some international travel will be needed.

Responsibilities
- Financial Strategy: Develop and execute the company's financial strategy aligned with the overall business goals, driving sustainable growth and profitability in the logistics and transport industry.
- Financial Planning and Analysis: Lead the financial planning and budgeting process, providing accurate forecasts, analysis, and insights to support strategic decision-making. Identify trends, risks, and opportunities and recommend appropriate actions.
- Financial Reporting: Ensure accurate and timely preparation of financial statements, management reports, and KPIs. Maintain compliance with accounting standards, regulations, and best practices.
- Cash Flow Management: Oversee cash flow planning and optimization, monitoring working capital, and ensuring adequate liquidity to support operational requirements.
- Risk Management: Identify and manage financial risks, implementing effective controls, and ensuring compliance with financial regulations, tax requirements, and industry standards.
- Financial Operations: Supervise the day-to-day financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger activities. Streamline processes and implement best practices to optimize efficiency and accuracy.
- Financial Systems and Controls: Oversee financial systems implementation and enhancements, ensuring data integrity, reliability, and security. Develop and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard company assets.
- Strategic Partnerships: Collaborate with external stakeholders, such as banks, auditors, legal advisors, and insurance providers, to optimize financial management and support business growth initiatives.
- Team Leadership: Build and lead a high-performing finance team, providing guidance, coaching, and professional development opportunities. Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- M&A and Business Development: Assess and analyze potential merger and acquisition opportunities, lead financial due diligence, and contribute to strategic business development initiatives.
Qualifications
Key Skills & Experience
- Experience leading finance teams across international boundaries.
- Excellent technical accounting skills, consolidations, tax, audit, etc.
- Experience of transactions, particularly integrating acquisitions.
- Strong commercial acumen.
- Fully qualified ACA/ACCA with 5+ years post-qualification experience.
- Ability to form relationships quickly across all levels of the organisation.
- Excellent communicator with an abundance of initiative.
- Ambition, energy, enthusiasm and drive to succeed.
